Pasala Keerai Thokku  | Spinach Chutney


Pasala keerai thokku/ spinach chutney/palak chutney is a nutritious and tasty south Indian thokku /chutney variety prepared by sauteing pasala keerai (spinach) along with spices and grinding to a fine paste. Then this paste is again cooked for few minutes along with tempering for an enhanced taste. This thokku goes very well with idli, dosa, rice etc. Learn how to make this traditional, healthy palak chutney below.

Ingredients

Pasala keerai /Spinach -1 bunch chopped
Urud dal -1 tbsp
Bengal gram dal - 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds -1 tsp
Coriander seeds -2 tbsps
Garlic -6 cloves
Red chillies -5-6 nos
Tamarind small goose berry sized
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
Red chilly -1 no broken
Oil -1 tbsp

Method

👉Heat oil in a kadai add urad dal,bengal gram dal, coriander seeds, garlic, red chillies and sauté well. remove from the fire set aside.



👉Now sauté the palak( spinach) for few minutes until they become soft.

👉First dry grind the dal mixture once then add palak, tamarind, salt, turmeric powder and little water and grind everything to a fine paste.



  👉Again heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilly allow it to crackle.

👉Pour the ground paste. Rinse the mixie jar with little water and add the water to the paste mix well. Cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens and colour changes to dark green. Remove from fire.


👉Serve  .
