Verkadalai kozhukattai/Peanut Modak

Verkadalai kozhukattai or Peanut modak is a very healthy, tasty and easy to make kozhukattai variety.The stuffing or pooranam is made

by powdering the roasted peanuts and jaggery together. Check out how to make this yummy and nutritious verkadalai kozhukattai below.

Ingredients

For Stuffing

Peanuts -1/2 cup
Jaggery -1/2 cup
Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp

For Dough

Processed rice flour/idiyappam flour
-1 /2 cup heaped
Gingelly oil -1-2  tsp
Salt-1/4 tsp
Hot water as required

Method 

For stuffing

👉Dry roast the groundnuts for few minutes, remove the skin and set aside to cool completely.
👉In a mixie jar add the roasted peanuts,  jaggery, cardamom powder and powder it coarsely (use the pulse or whip button on the mixie). Set aside.
Stuffing or puranam is ready.


For Outer Dough

👉In a vessel add processed rice flour, gingelly oil, salt and add hot water little by little and make a soft dough. Cover it with a moist cloth  for 5 minutes then once warm enough to handle knead well to a soft dough .


For Modak/ Kozhukattai

👉Now take small lemon sized balls from the dough, flatten it a bit in your palm, keep the stuffing in the middle close the dough make a ball again.If you are using the modak mould keep the modak ball inside the mould gently press it and make to modak / kozhukattai shape .



👉Steam these modaks for 5 -7 mins.


👉Serve.

Yields-10-12 Kozhukattais depending on size
