Pillaiyarpatti mothagam is very traditional and famous kozhukattai variety made in Pillaiyarpatti temple in Tamil Nadu.
It is made with raw rice,green gram dal and jaggery.Unlike regular kozhukattai we do not make the outer covering (called choppu) for this.It is a very delicious, healthy and easy to make sweet kozhukattai (modak) variety ,do try this recipe for vinayagar chathurthi.

Ingredients

Raw rice -1 cup
Green gram dhal-1/4 cup
Jaggery -3/4 cup
Grated coconut -2 tbsps
Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp
Ghee -1/4 cup

Method

👉Dry roast raw rice for a minute set aside.
👉Dry roast green gram dal for 2 minutes until you get a nice aroma and colour changes to a light golden brown.set aside.
👉Powder the raw rice and dal together to rava texture.set aside.

👉In a kadai add jaggery and 1/4 cup water and melt the jaggery and allow it to come to a boil. Now add the powdered rice +dal mixture, grated coconut, cardamom powder and 1 tbsp ghee and keep stirring continuously. 👉Add ghee in between.
👉Allow the mixture to cook for 5 mins.
👉Once the mixture becomes a thick mass and leaves the sides of the kadai remove from fire.

👉Allow it to cool a bit.
👉Grease your palms with ghee and make ladoos.

👉Steam the mothagams for 5 mins.

👉Serve.

Yield-12-14 nos depending on size
