Onion Masala

Onion masala is a very delicious and easy to make side dish for chapati, poori, appam, dosa etc. For making any side dish or gravy generally, we use a base masala where we first saute onion, tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, masala spices and then add veggies or water etc so this masala is just that sans the veggies, we are just using the onion masala itself as a side dish and trust me it tastes divine.Its one of the easiest and yummiest side dish to make during busy mornings. Ingredients

Onion-6-8 nos sliced
Tomatoes -2 nos chopped
Ginger garlic paste -1 tbsp
Red chilly powder -1-2 tsp
Dhaniya powder -2 tps
Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
Garam masala -1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds (sombu)-1 tsp
Curry leaves and coriander leaves few
Oil -1-2 tbsps

Method

👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, curry leaves and allow it to crackle.

👉Add the onions and sauté well for 2 minutes until the onions change colour.

👉Now add ginger garlic paste and fry for 1 minute.


👉Add all the powders red chilly powder, dhaniya powder ,turmeric powder,garam masala powder,salt mix well and saute for 2 minutes .

👉Now add the tomatoes , saute well and close the kadai with lid ,sim the gas and allow it to cook for 5 -7 mins .(Do not add water if too dry just sprinkle some water.)


👉Once the oil oozes on the sides and raw smell goes switch off the gas .

👉Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chapati, poori, dosa, rice etc.

Serves -4

Note-

✍️To get maximum taste do not add water during cooking the onion, let it sweat by steaming .
✍️Cook in slow flame for 5-10 mins by occasionally stirring it.
