AVARAKKAI MASALA GRAVY

Avarakkai masala gravy or Indian broad beans curry is a delectable South Indian gravy made with avarakkai(Indian broad beans). Usually we make avarakkai stir fry which is dry but in this recipe the broad beans is cooked in a gravy made with special coconut masala.It is one of the favourite dishes in my family.Check out this delicious recipe below.

Ingredients

Avarakkai/Indian broad beans-1/4 kg chopped to 1 inch pieces
Onions-2 nos chopped
Tomatoes-2 nos chopped
Red chilly powder-3/4 tsp
Coriander powder-2 tsps
Turmeric -1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds-1 tsp
Curry leaves and coriander leaves few
Salt to taste 
Oil-2 tsps

Grind Together-

Grated coconut-1/4 cup
Green chillies-2 nos
Garlic-4 cloves
Roasted gram (pottu kadalai)-1tbsp

Method

👉Grind the ingredients given for grinding to a smooth paste.set aside.


👉Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds, fennel seeds,curry leaves,onions and sauté for a minute.

👉Next add tomatoes,avarakkai and fry for few seconds, add red chilly powder, dhaniya powder, turmeric powder,salt,ground coconut paste and required water just enough to cover the avarakkai,mix well and pressure cook it for 3 whistles and switch off the gas.




👉Allow the pressure to subside completely, open the cooker and again keep on flame and adjust the consistency  of the gravy , bring to a boil garnish and serve hot.

👉Super tasty avarakkai masala gravy is ready.
Can be served with rice,chapati,poori,idli ,dosa ,appam etc.
