Mohanthal | Gujarati Mohanthal Mithai 


Mohanthal or Gujarati Mohanthal mithai recipe

Mohanthal is a delicious and very traditional Gujarati sweet variety made with besan flour,sugar and ghee.It is very similar to South Indian sweet Mysore pak  but there is a slight difference in the procedure,but the ingredients are the same for both. Ingredients

Besan flour/Kadalai maavu-1 cup heaped
Sugar-3/4 cup
Ghee-1/4-1/2 cup
Milk- 2 tbsps
Cardamom powder a pinch
Saffron strings few soaked in 1/2 tsp warm milk
Pista and badam-few broken
Oil-1/2 tsp to grease the plate.

Method

👉Mix besan flour,2 tbsps ghee,milk in a bowl crumble flour between your palms.
👉Seive it with big holed seive to get grainy mixture .(This step is very important to get nice texture in your sweet).





👉Heat the ghee in a non stick kadai add the besan flour and mix well .Keep stirring continuously for 5 mins till you get light brown colour and the mixture thickens a bit. Remove from fire set aside to cool.
👉Add the cardamom powder and saffron strings to it.mix well.



👉Now dissolve sugar in 1/4 cup water and bring it to 2 string consistency.

👉Pour the hot sugar syrup on to the besan mixture and keep stirring continuously until the sugar gets absorbed and the mixture thickens a bit (it takes about 2-3   minutes ,if you keep stirring for a long time the consistency will be lost and the mixture will become very crumbled)DO NOT KEEP ON FIRE.


👉Pour the mixture on to a greased plate, flatten a bit ,add broken pista and badam  over the top slightly press them and allow it to cool for 1 hour .

👉Cut into desired shapes .

👉Store in airtight container.
