Ashoka halwa is a very traditional and yummy South Indian halwa variety made with moong dal, wheat flour,sugar and ghee.It is one of the very old sweet recipes of South India. Originally they add wheat flour to this halwa which aids in thickening of the halwa quickly, but some people don't like the flavour of wheat flour so it is upto your taste preference to either add it or not. But here in this recipe I have added wheat flour and followed the traditional recipe. Check out how to make this delicious ashoka halwa recipe below with step by step pictures to guide you.


Ingredients

Moong dal/paasi paruppu-1/2 cup
Sugar-1 cup
Wheat flour-1/4 cup
Ghee-1/2 cup
Cashews-few
Red food colour a pinch

Method

👉Wash and soak the dal for 1/2-1 hour . cook the dal in pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles mash well set aside.


👉Roast the cashews in 1 tsp ghee till golden brown set aside.
👉Heat 2 tbsps ghee in a kadai add the wheat flour and roast it till you get nice aroma next add the sugar ,cooked dhal,food colour and mix everything well and cook for 10 -15 mins by continuously stirring and adding ghee at regular intervals.




👉Cook until the halwa forms as a mass and leaves the sides of the kadai and ghee oozes out .
👉Add the roasted cashews mix well.
👉Enjoy our traditional Asoka halwa.
